Collaboration with artist Gianluigi Toccafondo

Piazza Sempione's legendary involvement with art was playfully showcased at the presentation of the Fall/Winter 2006-2007 collection and collaboration with artist Gianluigi Toccafondo.

Toccafondo was invited to create an installation that infused the season's collection with the art of play, transforming the traditional game of snakes and ladders with a special twist using pieces from the collection as pieces of the board game.  In one installation, the current season's must-haves were suspended upon super-height ladders that hung down through the central staircase of our Milan building.  In another installation the artist created illustrations of items from the current season and intertwined the images with numbers as pieces of the board game.  The paintings enhanced the nature of the garment’s silhouette, for example intensifying the movement of a flared skirt or a distinctive high collar of a Napoleonic coat. 

With a roll of the dice, the player may find a ladder that moves him or her further along the board, or an unlucky roll will land the player on a needle and thread representing the snake and cause a slide backwards on the 100 steps needed to win the game.  Piazza Sempione rolls the dice to unveil a rich collection: fashion for the militant woman who knows where and when to play.
